I am working on an Office add-in that creates a tab using add-in commands. Everything works perfectly on Windows.

Using the same manifest on Mac however, I run into some issues. The tab is inserted fine when I open the add-in.

I am able to use all the features as expected. However, When I close and reopen Word the tab created by the add-in disappears.

EDIT for clarity: 1. Why doesn't Microsoft Office for Mac have the ribbon tabs the same as MO for PC? Why does Word for Mac not have the major TABS. Office 2008 for Mac doesn’t have the ribbon, but does have an ‘Elements’ bar – a quite staggering piece of lameness. Maybe there are some people somewhere who like this and use it. But while you can turn off/hide and/or customize all manner of toolbars as usual – the Element bar just sits there, taking up vertical screen space.

On Windows the tab is maintained if I close and reopen Word. I even tested using a sample add-in command manifest from Microsoft. I had the same issue there.

The add-in appears in the appropriate tab but if I close and reopen Word it disappears. Is this expected behavior? Is there some setting in Word that I need to change? Before you ask I am using the latest version of Word (15.36) and am running on OSX Yosemite 10.10.5.

Microsoft is also trying to standardize the ribbon across all the apps, Windows, Mac, Mobile etc. Collaboration continues to be a focus for Microsoft with all the collaboration status indicators at top right of the ribbon. Some of the videos features are already in Office like the color coding of collaborators and showing comments on the side. Coming Soon button Microsoft might have learned something from the inept introduction of the Office ribbon. Games for mac free download. There’ll be a ‘Coming Soon’ button at top right that you can use to turn the ribbon changes off, at least for a while.

Simple doesn’t mean better It’s way too early to judge these ribbon changes. If they are just about adding a simplified ribbon for beginners, that’s OK. The worry is Microsoft throwing away more complex options useful for more experienced users in favor of some simplistic ‘experience’ for novices.

There was no mention of the improved ribbon editing. It’s been interesting to watch Microsoft backflip from ‘changing the ribbon is easy’ to ‘maybe ribbon editing should be better’. Less talk, more action.

Outlook on the web search Another addition is integrated search on what’s called ‘Outlook on the web’, presumably Office 365 hosting only. The single search box will make suggestions on people or events, based on past behavior.
