Trying to create a new project with Visual Studio 2017 and using the Visual Basic Console Application. Problem: The console application is not listed and I can't find a way to install it. Just downloaded and installed Visual Studio Community 2017 with Universal Windown Platfor dev and Desktop development with C++. Click file 'New project' in the window on the left side is 'Open Visual Studio Installer' Once it is opened you will need to close Visual Studio's itself for your changes to take place. I added '.NET desktop development' but under options (right window/column) select all, except 'PreEmptive Protection - Dotfuscator' and 'Windows Communication Foundation'.

Also installed is 'Visual studio extension development' under options(right window/column) all are selected but 'PreEmptive Protection - Dotfuscator', Class Designer', 'MFC and ATL support(x86 and x64)', and 'Modeling SDK'. Also added 'Desktop Development with C++' Only the top 5 options are selected if you want the rest select them but that's up to you.

So in summary you will have 5 total main themes installed 'Visual studio core editor' '.NET desktop development' 'Visual Studio extension development' 'Universal Windows Platform development' and 'Desktop development with C++' After installing extensions you will now have more options to create your project in.
